What you actually buy

A physical GTA 6 box is still a box. Rockstar printed that the thing inside is a download code. It is not a playable disc. Redeem the code on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Then you download the same files a digital purchase would have given you — starting from about 12 November 2026.

Digital pre-load starts 12 November 2026. Physical boxes go on sale the same day so buyers can redeem and pre-load. Launch is 19 November 2026. The code does not move either date. It does not let you start the story on the 12th. Download date ≠ play date. Walkthrough: pre-load · day-one.

Rockstar Support is explicit: there is no physical Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate locker is a digital line. Standard owners who want that locker later buy the Upgrade after the code is used. Anger about ownership is not evidence a playable disc SKU exists.

Vintage still rides with the code

Physical Standard pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack with that download code, if you buy before 20 November 2026. Same cutoff as digital. The pack is not Ultimate-only. Day-after-launch buyers can miss it. Full list: Vintage pack.

I hosted V-Rock in 2002. That shop sold you a disc. This one sells a sleeve and a timed pack. Do not treat the cardboard as early access.

Prices and platforms, as printed

US prices on the 24 June 2026 sheet: Standard $79.99. Ultimate $99.99. Pre-orders opened 25 June 2026. Launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not published a PC date. Regional storefronts set their own currency. We are not converting them.
