GTA 6 storage plan — clear SSD before pre-load
nDesk stamp: 13 September 2026. Rockstar still has not printed how many gigabytes GTA 6 needs. That blank is real. You still need a storage plan before pre-load week, or the download sits in a queue while your SSD argues.
nnLaunch
19 November 2026. PS5 + Xbox Series X|S only.
Pre-load
12 November 2026, local midnight. Digital files; physical is a code-in-box from ~12 Nov.
Official install size
NOT PUBLISHED. No Newswire / storefront GB figure yet.
* Desk estimate
Budget ~150–200 GB install + day-one patch buffer → clear ~200–250 GB free SSD. Unofficial. Not a Rockstar number.
Quick answers
n- n
- How many GB? Official: unpublished. Rockstar has not printed an install size. n
- What should I clear? Planning estimate only: aim for ~200–250 GB free on a console SSD before 12 November. Label: Unofficial. n
- Why that range? Desk budget of ~150–200 GB for the install plus room for a day-one patch. Never treat it as a Rockstar figure. n
- PC? No official PC date. This page is console pre-load storage. n
Official vs estimate — keep the labels straight
nOfficial (printed by Rockstar / Take-Two): launch 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; digital pre-load 12 November; physical boxes carry a download code and go on sale from about 12 November so you can start the same download. No official file size. No PC launch date on the list.
nUnofficial / estimate (desk planning only): clear roughly 200–250 GB free SSD so a ~150–200 GB install plus a day-one patch does not strand you mid-download. Competitors already publish round GB pages. We publish a plan with the hole labeled.
nOfficial clocks: Take-Two PR, 24 June 2026 · Newswire launch date.
nnStorage math (estimate only)
nUntil Rockstar or a storefront prints one number, use this desk budget — and say the quiet part out loud: it is not official.
n| Bucket | Planning figure | Label |
|---|---|---|
| Base install (guess) | n~150–200 GB | nUnofficial / estimate | n
| Day-one patch buffer | n~20–50 GB headroom inside the free total | nUnofficial / estimate | n

Circulating 100 / 300 / 676 GB figures already float around this site and elsewhere as rumor. We are not crowning a winner. The 676-class number has parody DNA. Treat every exact GB claim without a Rockstar or storefront source as unverified.
nnSeries X vs Series S (same game, different free space)
nOfficial launch list is PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — both SKUs. Series S ships with a smaller internal SSD than Series X. That does not invent an official install size. It does change how painful a full drive feels. If you are on Series S, clear earlier and harder; expansion storage (Xbox Seagate / compatible) is a practical option for other games so GTA 6 can sit on the internal drive. We are not inventing fake Series S capacity specs — check the sticker on your own box.
nPS5 disc and digital models differ on optical drives, not on whether GTA 6 needs a download. Physical is still a code. Same hole either way. Boxed copy.
nnDownload time math (planning only — not a promise)
nDesk speed tables against the unofficial ~150–200 GB install budget. Planning math. Not Rockstar numbers. Your ISP, Wi-Fi, and storefront throttling will disagree.
n| Rough speed | ~150 GB | ~200 GB | Label |
|---|---|---|---|
| ~50 Mbps | n~7–8 hours | n~9–10 hours | nEstimate | n
| ~100 Mbps (ideal) | n~3–4 hours | n~4–5 hours | nEstimate | n
| ~300 Mbps | n~1–1.5 hours | n~1.5–2 hours | nEstimate | n
| ~1 Gbps | n~20–30 min | n~30–40 min | nEstimate | n
Example: at a clean ~100 Mbps, the unofficial 150–200 GB budget is a few ideal hours — not a promise your apartment Wi-Fi hits that. Pre-load opens 12 November. Rest-mode overnight downloads exist so you are not babysitting a progress bar on the 18th. Keep the ~200–250 GB free buffer so a day-one patch does not fail after the big pull finishes.

nRest mode / auto-download (practical)
nPre-load week rewards consoles that keep downloading while you sleep. Console settings advice, not speculation about the game.
n- n
- PS5: Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode — turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Allow Power From USB Ports if you rely on a powered drive. Also enable Automatic Downloads under Saved Data and Game/App Settings so the storefront can pull the title while the console rests. n
- Xbox Series X|S: Settings → General → Power mode & startup — use Instant-on so the console can download in standby. Confirm that game updates and queue downloads are allowed under the download / update preferences for your account. n
Wire the console if you can. Wi-Fi works; a busy apartment router on day one of a worldwide pre-load is a different story. Leave ~200–250 GB free before 12 November so rest-mode downloads do not abort for space. Walkthrough of the week: pre-load.
nnDigital vs boxed — same hole
nOfficial: the physical edition is a download code in the box, not a playable disc. Boxes go on sale from about 12 November so you can redeem and pre-load. You still need the same unpublished SSD space as a digital buyer. Cardboard is not capacity. Full card: boxed copy.
nnWhat this page is not
n- n
- Not an official Rockstar gigabyte count. n
- Not vehicle trunk storage / weapon-limit talk — different rumor lane. n
- Not a PC system-requirements sheet. That hole: system requirements. n
- Not a promise you can play on the 12th. Pre-load is files. Launch is the 19th. n
