Who’s Who: Rockstar Developers on the Record About GTA 6
For a decade Rockstar said almost nothing. Then, in the last two months before launch, it put its people in front of the press: a hands-off demo in Edinburgh, a Game Informer cover, a fashion-magazine sit-down. Rockstar rarely does this, so it’s worth keeping straight. This page lists every Rockstar developer who has gone on the record about Grand Theft Auto VI in 2026, what their job is, where they spoke, and the line that stuck. Desk stamp: 7 October 2026.
How to read it: interviews are Reported. A named Rockstar developer said it, a named outlet printed it. That’s strong, but it isn’t Rockstar.com copy, and it isn’t a feature list. Titles are as the outlets printed them. GTA6 NOW is independent. We are not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.

Who’s who
| Name | Role, as printed | Where they spoke (2026) | The line that stuck |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rob Nelson | Co-studio head and head of development, Rockstar North | IGN demo and interview (27 Aug) · Dazed · LOVE (5 Oct) | To IGN: “The streets in this game are narrower and more realistic in terms of scale.” To LOVE: development runs in eight-week milestones, “one obsessive day at a time.” |
| Aaron Garbut | Co-studio head, Rockstar North | Game Informer (29 Sep) · LOVE (5 Oct) | To Game Informer: Leonida is Rockstar’s biggest map “by some degree,” about twice GTA V’s. To LOVE: “We travel around with cops and with gang members.” |
| Rupert Humphries | SVP, narrative | Dazed · Game Informer (29 Sep) · LOVE (5 Oct) | To Dazed: “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative.” To Game Informer: “crime and corruption is the thread that pulls everyone together.” To LOVE: “Maybe the American Dream is more modest now.” |
| Owen Shepherd | VP, art, lighting and rendering | Game Informer (29 Sep) | “We have re-engineered our weather system to make everything much more localized and persistent.” Weather. |
| Michael Kane | VP, dynamic art (Game Informer) · VP, art (LOVE) | Game Informer (29 Sep) · LOVE (5 Oct) | To LOVE: the “crazy nuance” in clothing, styling, cosmetics and hairstyles across Leonida. |
| Paul MacPherson | SVP, environment art | Game Informer (29 Sep) | Asked about Disney World, Universal and Cape Canaveral: “While we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience.” |
| James Horton | Writing director | LOVE (5 Oct) | “In a way, there is no ‘background’ in this game; there’s just foreground that you’re not paying attention to right now.” |
| Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern | Writer | LOVE (2 Oct preview, 5 Oct issue) | Lucia’s actress “brought a lot to the character.” Rockstar still doesn’t name the actress. |
| Alexa D’Agostino | Writer | LOVE (5 Oct) | “…close to Lucia’s hometown of Liberty City.” Goal: a woman who can “stand tall next to the likes of Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic.” |
Dazed’s autumn issue (26–27 August) also quoted four more people around the project. Jamie-Lee Lloyd: new pipelines for the most detailed, varied population Rockstar has built. Michael Wiafe: don’t just repeat Florida clichés. Stu Petri: in-world brands should serve a purpose, not be one-off jokes. And Miami stylist Jillian Carr, working with Rockstar since 2023: “Vice City is built around vanity.” Dazed didn’t give everyone a title, so we don’t either.

- Driving and theft: narrower streets, tiered car security, tools to get into high-end cars (Nelson, IGN). Vehicles.
- The leads: Lucia from Liberty City, Jason pushed by “material circumstances,” Raul as the older mentor (Humphries and the writers, LOVE). LOVE, explained.
- Satire: election signs, robocalls, talk radio, nobody real by name (Humphries, LOVE).
- Ambient life: a dedicated LA team writing only pedestrian dialogue (Horton, LOVE).
Who isn’t on this list
- Sam Houser, Rockstar’s president, isn’t among the interviewees in any of these pieces.
- Dan Houser left Rockstar in March 2020. He’s said he’s skipping the Extended Look. Our story.

- The cast. Stephen Root is on the record as Brian Heder (AP). Rockstar hasn’t published a cast list; other names are Reported or rumor. Characters.
Why this matters six weeks out
Rockstar’s trailers show you the world. The interviews tell you how it’s meant to work, and they’re the closest thing to a manual until the game ships. But they’re interviews. “About twice GTA V” is a quote, not a measurement. “No one you meet is an extra” is a promise we can only check on 19 November. We keep both labeled until then. Countdown: the last six weeks.
