Reported
No full first-person mode at launch (Rob Nelson, 28 August).

Reported
First-person only for scoped aiming and the phone.

Not confirmed
A first-person mode added after launch.

What was said

  • Reported During the late-August studio visit, Rob Nelson told creator Davy Jones (Flow Games) on 28 August 2026 that the game is played in third person, with no full first-person mode at launch. First-person views are limited to scoped weapon aiming and the phone. Reported via VICE and TweakTown.
  • Reported IGN’s preview described the phone filling the screen when you pull it out, instead of a flat overlay. See phone and apps.
  • Not confirmed Rockstar has not said whether a first-person option could come later.

How GTA V handled it

GTA V launched in 2013 without first-person. Rockstar added a full first-person mode in the 2014 PS4 and Xbox One re-release. That history is context, not a promise for GTA 6.

Clips that show first-person

Clips from unreleased test builds that circulated in October are not the shipping game. We do not host them. Until Rockstar says otherwise, the on-record answer is Nelson’s.

Even if he had the build, Rockstar sat on RDR2 leaks for months and it didn't hurt it one bit.
