Miami-Dade sheriff rejects a Vice City wrap for Miami airport and transit

On September 3, 2026, NBC 6 South Florida reported that Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz rejected a county marketing pitch to rebrand Miami International Airport and local transit for Grand Theft Auto VI. The June 29 deck from Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's office proposed Vice City gate screens, wrapped Metromover cars, and branded manhole covers. It was a pitch, not a signed Rockstar contract.

What the deck wanted

Chief of staff Chris Hudtwalcker led the proposal before the Miami Herald surfaced it. Ideas included Port Gellhorn-style shipping installations and a Vice City Motor Fest. County spokesperson Carlos Suarez stressed nothing had been formally agreed with Rockstar Games.

"Miami-Dade County is a real community with real families… Miami-Dade County is not Vice City."

Viewer reaction on the NBC 6 package noted Miami's long romance with crime fiction from Scarface to Miami Vice, which is exactly why the sheriff's line landed. The city wants the tourism halo without painting felonies onto public rails. That tension is the story, not a canceled Rockstar contract that never existed.

Private murals vs public rails

Past GTA launches wrapped private sites like Los Angeles' Hotel Figueroa. Skinning an international airport and county trains needs political buy-in. Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez drew that line. Motor Fest-style private events could still proceed under normal permits; any revised public wrap must clear the county commission or die quietly.
