Sony priced the GTA 6 DualSense pads at $84.99. US Direct opens 10 September.

Sony priced the Vice City DualSense chase at US$84.99. US Direct pre-orders open 10 September at 10:00 a.m. ET. The pad is merch, not an Ultimate unlock.
On 3 September 2026, Sony put two limited DualSense pads on the State of Play stage and priced the chase at US$84.99 each. Pre-orders open tomorrow, 10 September 2026, at 10:00 a.m. ET on PlayStation Direct. The pads ship starting 19 November with the game. They do not unlock a campaign chapter. They do not replace a PS5 pre-order.
Rockstar sells Leonida. Sony sells a palm-tree haptic to go with it. Black is the Direct exclusivity story where Direct operates. White is the broader retail story. Both are limited quantities. Sony did not publish how many.
Claim. The GTA 6 DualSense pads are launch merch priced like a mid-tier game DLC, not an Ultimate unlock and not a console bundle.
Evidence. PlayStation.Blog, 3 September 2026: Black and White Limited Editions; US$84.99 / EUR84.99 / GBP74.99; US Direct pre-orders 10 September at 10:00 a.m. ET; free launch-day delivery language for eligible Direct orders; Black exclusive through Direct where Direct operates; White on Direct plus participating retailers.
Verdict. Confirmed as hardware merch with a dated Direct window. Unverified: exact US retail list for White, production totals, and whether Black Direct stock survives lunch.

What Sony printed on 3 September
Isabelle Tomatis, VP Global Marketing at SIE, framed the pads as Vice City style in the hand: sun-soaked coast versus nightlife. Both finishes are color-shifting. Both mold palm trees into the shell. Both carry official Grand Theft Auto VI branding. That is the product language. It is not a systems paper.
The same post ties the pads back to DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers inside GTA 6, then points to the older "plays best on PS5" partner pitch. If you already own a DualSense, nothing in the Newswire says these limited shells change damage numbers or early access. Cosmetics are the pitch. Scarcity is the schedule.
Black versus white is a distribution story
White Limited Edition: limited quantities globally on direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers. That sentence is the wide door.
Black Limited Edition: limited quantities exclusively through Direct where Direct operates, and through select retailers in other regions. Direct markets named in the footnotes: United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, Austria. Portugal is told to use playstation.com/store/hardware.
Sony has not handed US buyers a Best Buy / GameStop / Target checklist for White. Until a retailer prints a SKU page with a cart, treat "participating retailers" as a promise without a street address. Our DualSense hub and US stores sheet stay honest about that gap.
The pre-order drill for 10 September
US clock: 10:00 a.m. Eastern, 7:00 a.m. Pacific. Named European Direct markets open at 10:00 a.m. local. Eligible Direct pre-orders get free launch-day delivery language. Exact controller launch dates can still vary by country.
Practical list, not a bot tutorial: PSN signed in before the hour, payment method alive, Direct tab open early, no Discord queue fantasy. If the cart 404s, you walk away or try White at a named retailer later. The game still needs its own checkout on PlayStation Store. See pre-order safety and the calendar DualSense .ics.
Hardware merch is not the Ultimate locker
Ultimate Edition is a US$99.99 digital game SKU with shops and cosmetics threaded through Jason and Lucia's story. DualSense Limited Edition is an US$84.99 pad. Confusing them is how people buy twice and still miss Rideout Customs. Decision sheet: edition picker. Locker sheet: editions.
June's PlayStation Blog already sold "plays best on PS5" with haptic copy. September's drop puts a Vice City skin on the same control surface and adds a scarcity clock. That is merchandising literacy, not a conspiracy. Sony has not said how many Black or White units exist, which US chains will list White on day one, or whether a restock follows the first Direct wave. No Xbox Series pad was announced.
19 November is still the game date. 10 September is the pad date. If you only have money for one cart, buy the license that boots Leonida. The palm tree can wait.
