Tribunal filing: Rockstar treated a 32-player online format as a secret

Glasgow filings quote Rockstar Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe on an internal 32-player online format. That is 2025 workplace evidence. It is not a multiplayer announcement.

Glasgow Employment Tribunal records filed 10 September 2026 quote Rockstar Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe on an internal "online 32 player format" talked about on a developer Discord. She called it "extraordinarily alarming" and one of the studio's most closely guarded secrets. The line sits in workplace evidence about October 2025 dismissals, not on the Newswire. Our first tribunal write-up has the same origin.

Where things stand, 14 October 2026

  • Official Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced.
  • Official US$79.99 Standard, US$99.99 Ultimate (Take-Two, 24 June). Digital pre-load opens 12 November; the boxed copy is a download code, not a disc.
  • Store listing US stores unlock it at 12:00 a.m. ET on 19 November and show ESRB Mature 17+.
  • Official Rockstar named six in-game radio stations on 8 October.
  • Reported Bloomberg’s 14 October making-of feature covers the two delays, crunch and the next game: our breakdown · quick answers.

Viral, not a fact Tribunal testimony is a 2025 confidentiality fight. It is not a locked launch spec.

What Kolbe actually said

Rockstar is defending the dismissal of 31 UK staff in October 2025. In those filings, Kolbe treats the 32-player talk as a serious leak. That is enough to say 32 was an engineering number on a Discord, not enough to say Leonida Online launches at 32. The leak tracker logged the clip of the filing on 10 September. Players who wanted 50 or 100 noticed the number. Rockstar still has not printed a session size.

Thirty in 2013, a hundred on FiveM

GTA Online launched in 2013 with 30 players. FiveM dedicated servers have run past 100 for years. Two extra slots on a console session is not the leap that crowd wanted. It may still be the number the map can stand. Leonida is interiors, traffic, and cops that persist. Blaine County was empty dirt. Those are different sync bills. Nobody in the filing ran that math on the record.

Series S still has 8 GB

Digital Foundry has the Series S at 8 GB of addressable memory. If every networked player carries deformation, guns, faces, and cloth, 64 or 100 bodies will steal pedestrians and traffic. That is hardware arithmetic, not a Rockstar quote. It explains why 32 would be a cap. It does not prove the cap.

Grand Theft Auto VI is still dated 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. There is still no official multiplayer sheet.

Tribunal quote, not Newswire. Kolbe called a 32-player format a guarded secret in a dismissal fight. Treat it as internal gossip until Rockstar says it.

Right on both counts, mostly. The 32-player figure comes from the Glasgow tribunal filings, not a Rockstar announcement, so treat it as a reported internal target rather than a locked launch spec. The memory side is the real constraint: every networked player in Leonida needs synced vehicle deformation, inventories, and facial animation, and Xbox Series S has 8GB to work with. Dense sessions make sense if they want RDR2-level NPC weight in Vice City. Thirty-two players beats empty lobbies full of cardboard cops.

Even if he had the build, Rockstar sat on RDR2 leaks for months and it didn't hurt it one bit.
