GTA 6's 27-Minute PS5 Reveal Broke Netflix and Stranded Creators

Rockstar handed Netflix a continuous gameplay reel captured on a standard PlayStation 5 at 3:00 p.m. ET on August 27. The crush took Netflix down before a lot of people saw Vice City. The same file went up on YouTube that night — about 27 minutes, not Trailer 3, and not a paid early-access product.

A base PS5 reel, not a Pro flex

The useful part was the hardware. GameSpot confirmed the showcase was captured on standard PlayStation 5 hardware, not a PlayStation 5 Pro or a PC devkit. That is Vice City's crowds, volumetric lighting, and vehicle physics on retail silicon.

The co-stream blackout and creator chill

The mess spilled into the creator economy. As Kotaku documented, fuzzy broadcast terms and Netflix licensing left streamers unsure whether watch parties would draw copyright strikes. Instead of frame-by-frame reaction the second the file dropped, a lot of channels sat on their hands until the YouTube upload landed.
