The Streaming Bottleneck That Locked Players Out of Leonida

When Rockstar launched Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix at 3:00 p.m. ET on August 27, the app folded under a simultaneous pile-on. Instead of Jason and Lucia, a lot of subscribers got Something Went Wrong screens on phones, TVs, and browsers, as reported by Eurogamer.

The launch bottleneck

A VOD pipeline is not built for a single global drop. Dexerto reported Downdetector spikes on Netflix website access, login, and streams right at the scheduled time.

Netflix first, YouTube the same night

The backlash was about the first window, not a paid six-hour PPV. As GameSpot noted, a lot of fans wanted the old simultaneous Newswire and YouTube drop. Netflix is a subscription app. The Extended Look was not a separate early-access product. The open file landed the same night on YouTube and the official Grand Theft Auto VI site.

Back up before the public file

Engineering restored playback in about an hour, according to Eurogamer. Subscribers who stuck around finished the reel on Netflix. Everybody else waited for the YouTube upload around 9:00 p.m. ET. None of that moved the November 19, 2026 date on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
