CyberLeek could not force Rockstar to press GTA 6 discs

CyberLeek could not force Rockstar to press GTA 6 discs

CyberLeek stamped 'no disc, no buy' on leaked GTA 6 test clips. Rockstar answered with DMCA pressure and kept the August 27 Extended Look on the calendar.

Unauthorized test clips landed with a watermark attached.

"No physical discs? Then more leeks!"

Physical media arguments walked straight into leak extortion. Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped on multi-disc Blu-ray sets you could play offline. Grand Theft Auto VI retail boxes for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will hold digital voucher codes ahead of the November 19, 2026 release.

Plastic cases and empty trays

Code-in-a-box packaging is what produced the GTA 6 no disc no buy chant. Losing optical media kills used-game trading, lending, and long-term offline preservation across Vice City. A retail copy then lives on account verification servers. That ownership fear was real. It also made convenient cover for unauthorized data drops.

Watermarks and token polls

Eurogamer reported that CyberLeek published early gameplay clips and map material while claiming to defend gamers against digital-only releases and single-player cuts. The advocacy pose did not last. Game Rant reported CyberLeek ran cryptocurrency token polls where holders voted on which test clips to drop next. Disc-boycott ultimatums were the grassroots costume on a speculative token scheme.

Subpoenas against the leaks

Take-Two and Rockstar did not negotiate. Forbes detailed rapid DMCA takedowns and legal subpoenas aimed at hosting services. In a statement reported by GameSpot, Rockstar said it was heartbroken that developer craft had been exposed out of context through raw test builds instead of a staged reveal.

Rockstar still ran its scheduled August 27 Netflix presentation of An Extended Look. In December 2023, an early leak forced Trailer 1 out ahead of schedule. This time the marketing calendar did not move. A watermark is not leverage over a planned rollout.

No discs on the calendar

Rockstar is still routing pre-orders through its official site and posting updates on the Rockstar Newswire. It has announced no plan to press optical discs for standard or Ultimate Editions before November 19, 2026. Losing Blu-rays changes how you keep a console game. CyberLeek's collapsed campaign did not rebuild a disc plant.

No discs then more leaks. Extortion dressed as preservation. Transparent.
