The GTA 6 Leaker Is Using New Footage to Sell a Crypto Token

This week's GTA 6 leaker used exclusive build clips to drive a Solana meme coin and charged 400 XMR for bespoke footage, turning gameplay leaks into a monetization scheme.

The account behind this week's unofficial GTA 6 clips paired the footage with a Solana meme coin, letting token holders vote on which clip released next while charging 400 Monero (around $165,000) just to discuss custom watermarks.

Somebody packaged a leak wave as a consumer protest, but the operational model was simple: pump a token, charge an entry fee, and drop fresh footage whenever trading volume cooled.

The GTA 6 leaks were tied to a Solana token from the start

On 18 August, an anonymous account published clips, a map, and a three-point manifesto demanding no digital preorders, no locked on-disc content, and offline preservation. Alongside the manifesto, the account promoted a Solana token, claiming it was not a cash grab.

Dexerto revealed on-chain records showing the token went live on 15 August—three days before the footage dropped—generating roughly $11.8 million in volume on the 18th alone. A token launched days ahead of a manifesto is an advance plan, not an afterthought.

Polls were gated behind token transfers. Mashable reported on a poll pitting daytime plane footage against cars and a motorcycle; the plane won with over 147,000 tokens (64.4% of the pool), after which a clip showing "LEEK" shot into a wall was published.

PC Gamer and Mashable tracked the token at a $1.1M to $1.23M market cap on 20 August, with approximately $198,000 in liquidity and the top ten wallets controlling 51.6% of total supply. Kotaku noted wallet tracking by GTAForums user Vice Cit: creating the coin cost around $29,000, first-day creator fees netted $30,000, and a secondary wallet held 270 million tokens worth $391,000 at peak.

Beyond token volume, PC Gamer reported the leaker added an advertising tier on 21 August, demanding 400 Monero (~$165,000) just to negotiate custom watermarks or specific footage drops.

Stop Killing Games rejected the association

The leaker attempted to wrap the stunt in consumer advocacy, borrowing talking points from Stop Killing Games regarding post-shutdown offline play. On 19 August, Stop Killing Games disavowed the leaker on X, stating that leaking footage to pump a meme coin undermines genuine preservation campaigns and urging the community not to purchase the token.

Take-Two subpoenas Microsoft and Discord

On 20 August, Take-Two filed for DMCA subpoenas in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York targeting Microsoft and Discord to obtain account logs and identity records, giving both platforms until 4 September to comply.

Jason Schreier reported via Bloomberg that Rockstar had not yet identified the breach method. By 22 August, Eurogamer found the campaign's website offline and its Telegram channel hit with copyright takedowns.

Evidence confirms recent build access, not old archives

The bullet-hole "LEEK" tag indicated interactive control instead of passive video playback. PC Gamer identified Tate McRae's single "Sports Car" playing on an in-game radio station, a track released in January 2025. This establishes that the footage originated from an active, recent development build, not the 2022 breach archive.

TechSpot confirmed that circulating torrents claiming to contain playable GTA 6 files are malware. No executable build has leaked, and claims of real-money in-game cash-out mechanics are scams.

Token was trading Aug 15. Before the clips. Footage is the ad. That's the tell.

It is a storefront — the piece lays out the receipts. The Solana token went live August 15, three days before the clips, and voting required transferring tokens, while the contact page listed 400 Monero (~$165k) just to open talks on watermarks. Stop Killing Games disavowed it on August 19, too. Footage pumped the coin, not the other way around.

Stop Killing Games told people not to buy the coin. Using that campaign as a costume is scummy.

Torrent builds are malware. Do not download that because a watermark says playable.
