The Operational Split Behind Rockstar's Censored Chinese Trailer
Rockstar replaced the uncut GTA 6 Extended Look on Bilibili with a heavily blurred cut hiding smoking, gore, and nightclub dancing, while continuing to host the unedited version on its official Chinese site.
Confirmed Rockstar replaced its Bilibili trailer with a blurred cut while serving the unedited footage on its official Chinese site.
When Rockstar Games launched Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Chinese streaming platform Bilibili on August 27, documented on our GTA 6 leak tracker, viewers initially received the unedited 27-minute cut seen worldwide. By August 31, that upload was replaced with heavy digital redactions. The swap is not a rewritten game build, but platform compliance theater executed at the video level.

Vice City nightclub scenes blurred on Bilibili
GTAForums user BDF first documented the stealth replacement, showing side-by-side frames confirmed by Kotaku and IGN. Across the revised Bilibili video (BV1vm4f6bETN), Take-Two and Rockstar obscured suggestive dancing, swimwear, smoking, and bloodied bodies.
The redactions strip out key visual benchmarks. As Jason walks through a Vice City nightclub, an opaque purple wash blankets the background, obscuring crowd geometry, character animations, and atmospheric neon. Later shots mask a cigarette in Jason's hand and pixelate crime-scene corpses, blunting the environmental grit and ballistic trauma central to Rockstar's open-world design.

Rockstar's Chinese website hosts the unedited Extended Look
Rockstar's broader distribution setup refutes the idea of a sanitized regional release. While Bilibili streams the blurred file, Rockstar's official mainland Chinese portal continues hosting the completely unedited Extended Look with simplified Chinese subtitles, accessible domestically without a VPN. Earlier GTA 6 trailers on the same Bilibili channel also remain entirely untouched.
Instead of a creative overhaul, the enforcement is platform-specific. Take-Two Interactive has issued DMCA copyright strikes against Bilibili users re-uploading the unblurred cut, as reported by TheGamer. The publisher is actively policing third-party streaming channels to appease regional platform hosts while leaving its proprietary pipeline untouched.
Bilibili platform moderation leaves the November 19 release intact
Chinese players on Tieba forums noted that Bilibili enforces strict algorithmic moderation aimed at teenage viewers. Redacting visual fidelity on a public feed shields the channel from domestic penalties without signaling an overhauled game build. Viral claims that GTA 6 has been banned in China confuse third-party platform moderation with official government licensing.
Take-Two has yet to announce an official mainland Chinese console release or secure an ISBN license from state regulators, with retail listings remaining locked to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on the official Grand Theft Auto VI site. The critical question for international players is whether Take-Two's aggressive trailer sanitization sets a precedent for strict console ratings boards like Australia's R18+ classification, or if the purple haze remains confined to Bilibili's player.
