Obbe Vermeij calls the GTA 6 leak cycle a nothing burger

Former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij answered the latest GTA 6 clip drop on X. Dexerto recapped the line on 24 August: "Calm down everybody. The leaks are a nothing burger."

What Vermeij posted on X

In his 22 August thread, Vermeij said Rockstar kept GTA 6 quieter for longer than rival AAA productions. Gameplay clips still landed days before the Extended Look. His point was the buyer's habits, not the studio's feelings. Most people who will purchase the game do not live in spoiler threads.

He also said staff inside Rockstar North are probably angry. Then he put the clips next to Hot Coffee in 2005, which he called a real studio nightmare during San Andreas. Short unauthorized videos do not reach that bar.

The 90 percent audience split

On 23 August he answered story-leak worries the same way. Narrative spoilers are ugly. They will not stop the finished game. He still expects a huge commercial run that lasts years. The 90 percent line is that split: the people refreshing leak folders are not the people buying at retail.

The X thread is not the BBC sit-down

This is not the BBC Newsbeat interview with IGN's Wesley Yin-Poole. On the BBC, Vermeij said he had not watched the low-quality clips and expected them to be forgotten by launch. The X posts go further on morale and on who actually watches this stuff.

The broadcast calendar did not move

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not commented on Vermeij. The 6 August rollout is unchanged. Extended Look on 27 August at 3:00 p.m. ET on Netflix, then YouTube and the website at 9:00 p.m. ET.
