Leonida, Region by Region: Where GTA 6 Takes You Now That It's Twice GTA 5

Six regions, about twice GTA V's map per Rockstar North's Aaron Garbut. Here's each one, plus what Gloriana and the 'Vice City Airport' really are.
GTA 6’s state of Leonida has six official regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut told Game Informer in its September 29 cover story that the whole map is about twice the size of GTA V’s.
Twice Los Santos and Blaine County, and this time the swamp gets top billing.
Claim. Leonida is six regions in one Florida-shaped state, about twice GTA V’s map. Gloriana is a name on licence plates, not a seventh region, and “Vice City Airport” was a real-world marketing pitch, not a map change.
Evidence. Official: six destination postcards on Rockstar’s VI site since May 2025. Reported (Game Informer, via VGC and Insider Gaming): Garbut says Leonida is about twice GTA V’s map, with no square-mile figure. Reported (WLRN, NBC 6): Miami-Dade’s sheriff and a commissioner rejected rebranding Miami International Airport as “Vice City Airport.”
Verdict. Region names are Official. Size and region details are Reported from a paywalled magazine story. A playable Gloriana is unconfirmed.

- September 30, 2026 — creators argue over whether Gloriana is Georgia or Virginia.
- November 19, 2026 — you get to drive it yourself.
Official
Six regions with postcard copy; a souvenir map poster in the Vice City Collection; the Vice City airport sign in Trailer 1.
Reported
About twice GTA V (Garbut to Game Informer); Port Gellhorn motels, Ambrosia refineries and bikers, Mount Kalaga on the Florida–Georgia line; theme parks and the Space Coast not committed.
Estimate
Fan map measurements of roughly 120–180 km²; Gloriana as Georgia.
Leonida Is About Twice GTA V, With No Square-Mile Figure
Garbut told Game Informer that Leonida is the biggest map Rockstar has made “by some degree,” about twice the size of GTA V’s, with more detail (Reported, via VGC). It matches what Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s other co-studio head, told YouTuber TGG in August: “roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s,” per TechSpot. He also said the team hit “a critical mass with the numbers of our interiors.” In August, Christopher Byrd’s New York Times preview put it another way: “The overall map, the studio said, is three times as large as the playable area of its previous game, Red Dead Redemption 2” (Reported, via GameSpot). Nobody official has given square miles.
Fans have tried. Community mapper LXR’s project measures about 21 km north to south and 14 km west to east, or 122.6 to 177.4 km² depending on whether you count ocean sections and the western Keys (Estimate, fan measurement relayed by MrBossFTW). Useful for arguments. Not a Rockstar number. More on our map size page.
One more “official map” exists: the double-sided souvenir poster inside Rockstar’s $399.99 Vice City Collection box, with “a full view of the Leonida map” on the back (Official). It’s illustrated tourist art. Don’t measure it with a ruler.
Rupert Humphries, Rockstar’s narrative boss, added a useful warning, as creators relayed from the Game Informer story: the plot moves you around the map, but it won’t take you everywhere (Reported). The rest is yours to find.
Vice City and the Leonida Keys: The Postcard South
Vice City is the Miami stand-in and the headline act. Rockstar’s postcard tagline is “Everything in Excess,” and its copy calls the city “still the sun and fun capital of America” (Official). Named spots so far include Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port, “the cruise ship capital of the world.” Game Informer’s coverage stresses Art Deco, beaches and the cruise port. A night screenshot shows searchlights over the Sahara Arena, the game’s version of the Kaseya Center (Reported, GTAVice reading of a Game Informer image). Our Vice City hub has the official stills.
The Leonida Keys are “Gateway to Paradise”: an island chain where life “isn’t flashy but it’s easy,” on the doorstep of “some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America” (Official). That’s where Brian Heder runs his boat yard and Jason does work for local drug runners, per their official bios. Game Informer adds a bigger detail: the Keys are “where Jason begins the game” (Reported, via Wccftech). Game Informer’s activity list fits the water: scuba diving, jet skiing and kayaking (Reported). It’s also the region where you’re most likely to watch a storm roll in. More on that on our weather page.
Grassrivers: The Everglades Region
Grassrivers is “the untamable jewel of Leonida’s crown,” tagline “Welcome to the Wetlands.” Rockstar’s copy says the gators “may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves” (Official).
Game Informer filled in the wildlife: more than 170 species across Leonida, including manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators, plus invasives like green iguanas, cane toads and rhesus macaques (Reported). Some animals can be tracked as Rare, Discoverable or Legendary, Red Dead style, and the legendary ones are secret. Game Informer also ties the region to “the Everglades’ history as a drug-running hotbed” (Reported), which tells you what the airboats are for. Airboating is on the activity list. Bring bug spray, metaphorically. Full rundown on our wildlife page.
Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia: Motels, Refineries and a Biker Gang
Port Gellhorn is “Leonida’s forgotten coast,” tagline “Live Hard.” Rockstar’s copy promises cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls that “won’t bring the tourists back,” powered by malt liquor, painkillers and truck-stop energy drinks (Official). Game Informer’s description matches: declining tourist towns, cheap motels and run-down malls (Reported, VGC). This is GTA’s favorite kind of place, where the vacation ended in 1994 and nobody told the billboards.
Ambrosia, “Keeping Leonida Sweet,” is the inland industrial belt. Rockstar’s copy says the Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs and the local biker gang provides “almost everything else” (Official). Game Informer calls it the heart of the state, with factories, refineries and an influential biker gang (Reported). Rockstar still hasn’t officially named that gang. Creators have read Game Informer’s Ambrosia screenshot as Jason in a confrontation with bikers. That’s an interpretation of one image.
Mount Kalaga National Park and the Gloriana Question
Mount Kalaga, “Wild, Wild Country,” sits on the state’s northern border, with hunting, fishing and off-road trails, and “hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals” in the backwoods (Official). Game Informer puts it on “Leonida’s northern border along the Leonida-Gloriana line, Rockstar’s take on the Florida-Georgia line,” and mentions communities “built around private jet ownership, complete with personal landing strips” (Reported, via Wccftech). Hillbilly mystics next door to fly-in mansions. Very Florida. Coverage of the wider countryside lists ATV trails, mud parks, demolition derbies, motocross, ranches, golf courses, bass fishing and abandoned tourist attractions (Reported, GTAVice).
Now the confusion. Gloriana has appeared on some licence plates in Rockstar’s footage and screenshots. That’s it. Rockstar has never listed it as a region, and nothing says you can drive there. InkTV, reviewing a mapper’s theory that Gloriana is Virginia, sided with Georgia. MrBossFTW matched a Mount Kalaga waterfall to Amicalola Falls in north Georgia, which is why some fans think Leonida swallowed a chunk of Georgia. One more breadcrumb: in January, a fan told GTA BOOM he sold the domain visitgloriana.com to Rockstar, through brand-protection firm MarkMonitor, for about $2,000 (Reported). Owning a domain proves Rockstar cares about the name, not that you can cross the border. All of the geography arguments are Estimate. Our rule: Gloriana is the state next door until Rockstar says otherwise.
Same for Orlando-style theme parks and the Space Coast. Asked about Disney World, Universal and Cape Canaveral, Rockstar’s SVP of environment art Paul MacPherson said: “While we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience” (Reported, Game Informer via GTA Intel). Read that as no Mickey and no NASA by name. Parody versions aren’t ruled in or out.
The Airport Confusion: Vice City International vs “Vice City Airport”
Two different airports are getting mashed together online. The in-game one is the Vice City airport whose giant VICE CITY letters appear in Trailer 1 and in Rockstar’s official Vice City 01 still (Official). Fan wikis call it Vice City International Airport. Rockstar hasn’t printed a formal name. Hazard’s airport breakdown argues the Extended Look airport is modeled on Miami International, control tower included (Estimate, creator analysis).
The other one is real. A 19-page Miami-Dade proposal from July, drafted by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s administration and pitched to Rockstar as a revenue idea, suggested temporarily rebranding parts of Miami International as “Vice City Airport.” In other words, the pitch came from the county side, per local reporting. On September 3 the sheriff and a county commissioner rejected it in public (Reported). It never changed anything in the game. We covered it in the sheriff’s veto, and the rest of the real-world campaign is on our marketing tracker. Separately, a fan-map rumor that Draper Island hosts an airport or port is unconfirmed.
What We Still Don’t Know
- An official area in square miles or km².
- Whether Gloriana, or any land beyond Mount Kalaga, is playable.
- Whether parody theme parks or a rocket site exist.
- How regions open up as the story progresses.
The official clock: pre-load November 12, launch November 19 at 12:00 a.m. ET per US store listings, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Six postcards, one state, and about twice the room to get in trouble. The regions are on our Leonida map hub until you can see them yourself.
