Will There Be a GTA 6 Trailer 3? What Rockstar's Final Weeks Before Launch Usually Look Like

Rockstar hasn't announced Trailer 3. GTA V and RDR2 both got a short launch trailer in the final weeks, and RDR2's landed with pre-load.
Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 Trailer 3. The official video list is still Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023), Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) and An Extended Look (August 27, 2026), with launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
That’s the official answer. The useful answer is what Rockstar did in the last seven weeks before its two most recent launches, because history is the only leak that never gets taken down.
Claim. A final pre-launch video for GTA 6 is likely, but probably not a story-heavy “Trailer 3.” Rockstar’s pattern is a short launch trailer in the last few weeks, often near pre-load.
Evidence. Official history: GTA V’s “The Official Trailer” landed August 29, 2013, 19 days before launch. Red Dead Redemption 2’s one-minute Launch Trailer landed October 18, 2018, eight days before launch and hours before pre-loading opened at 12:00 a.m. ET on October 19. GTA 6 pre-load opens November 12 (Official).
Verdict. No GTA 6 trailer is announced or dated. A launch trailer near pre-load is an Estimate based on precedent. October 15 and other specific dates are creator theories.
- July 9, 2013 — first GTA V gameplay video, ten weeks out.
- August 15, 2013 — GTA Online gameplay reveal.
- August 29, 2013 — GTA V “The Official Trailer,” 19 days out.
- September 15, 2013 — GTA V pre-load opens on PSN. Launch is September 17.
- August 9, 2018 — first RDR2 gameplay video, eleven weeks out.
- October 1, 2018 — RDR2 gameplay video part 2 (Xbox Wire date).
- October 18, 2018 — RDR2 Launch Trailer. Pre-load opens at midnight ET. Launch is October 26.
- August 27, 2026 — GTA 6 An Extended Look, twelve weeks out.
- November 12, 2026 — GTA 6 pre-load. November 19 — launch.
Official
Two trailers and an Extended Look; pre-load Nov 12; launch Nov 19; Rockstar’s album post promises more on the “dynamic score” and “next evolution of in-game radio.”
Reported
LOVE magazine Issue 27 with Rob Nelson and Rupert Humphries, out October 5 (VICE, RockstarINTEL); Rob Nelson told Kinda Funny’s Andy Cortez the studio didn’t want a “narrated thing” (TheGamer). Unverified: MrBossFTW’s claim that Rockstar archived a Discord channel.
Estimate
A short launch trailer in the final weeks, based on GTA V and RDR2. Any exact date.
Rockstar Has Not Announced Trailer 3
Let’s clear the name first. The August 27 broadcast was called Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. It aired on Netflix at 3:00 p.m. ET and on YouTube and the VI site at 9:00 p.m. ET. Rockstar never called it Trailer 3, and we don’t either. Our official trailers page keeps the list honest.
Since then Rockstar’s own channels have posted a DualSense reveal, controller pre-orders, the album, and the $399.99 Vice City Collection box. No video. The Newswire hasn’t teased one either. When YouTube titles say “Trailer 3 confirmed,” they mean somebody is confident.
GTA V and RDR2 Both Got a Launch Trailer in the Final Weeks
Here’s the precedent, from Rockstar’s own uploads and platform blogs.
GTA V (launch September 17, 2013). The first gameplay video arrived July 9, per the PlayStation Blog. GTA Online got its own reveal on August 15. Then, on August 27, Rockstar’s Newswire announced “Grand Theft Auto V: The Official Trailer Coming this Thursday,” and it debuted August 29 at 11:00 a.m. ET (Official). Nineteen days out. PSN pre-loads followed on September 15, per IGN. Story beats, a couple of jokes, a release date card. That was the last big GTA V video before players had the disc.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (launch October 26, 2018). Trailer 3 came in May 2018. The official gameplay video followed on August 9, per the PlayStation Blog, and part 2 arrived October 1, per Xbox Wire. The Launch Trailer dropped Thursday, October 18, about a minute long, and Sony’s post that day said pre-loading would unlock “tonight at midnight” (PlayStation Blog). Trailer first, downloads a few hours later.
Put GTA 6 on the same ruler. An Extended Look, about 27 minutes long, aired twelve weeks before launch, right where the GTA V and RDR2 gameplay videos sat. It just ran five times longer. Pre-load is November 12. If Rockstar repeats RDR2, that’s the obvious slot for a short launch trailer (Estimate). If it repeats GTA V, late October works too. Either way the precedent points to one short, punchy video, not a ten-minute story reveal.
Those are two data points, not a law. Rockstar has broken its own schedule before: Trailer 1 went up a day early in December 2023 after a low-quality copy leaked, and the game itself has moved twice. Its marketing is famously hard to schedule, and the people who swear they know the date usually find out with the rest of us.
Thursday Is Rockstar’s News Day, but Not Every Thursday Is a Trailer
Rockstar has leaned hard on Thursdays. An Extended Look was a Thursday. So were the DualSense reveal (September 3), controller pre-orders (September 10), the album (September 17) and the Vice City Collection (September 24). Launch day, November 19, is a Thursday too. GTA VI O’Clock’s hosts joked that “Rockstar love Thursdays” now.
Look at what those Thursdays delivered, though. InkTV made the sharpest point in our creator sweep: every Rockstar beat since August 27 has been “something you can buy.” The Miami HEAT game night was announced on a Friday by the HEAT, and LOVE magazine’s screenshots came out on a Friday too. A Thursday is when Rockstar talks. It isn’t a promise of footage. Treat each one like a scratch-off ticket: worth checking, not worth planning your week around.
What “More News in the Coming Weeks” Actually Points To
Three official “more coming” lines are on the record right now, and none of them says trailer.
- Music: Rockstar’s September 17 album post: “Stay tuned for more details about the music of Grand Theft Auto VI, including the dynamic score, the next evolution of in-game radio, and more” (Official). A radio-station reveal is the most clearly promised beat left.
- Merch: the Vice City Collection post told fans to look out for “more apparel and collectibles” at the Rockstar Store soon (Official).
- Miami: the HEAT release says the two brands “will continue to share more news over the next few weeks” (Official, partner release). That’s about the November 18 game night. Our marketing tracker logs it.
If you want to bet on the next Rockstar video, bet on radio. It’s the only thing Rockstar has explicitly told us to stay tuned for.
LOVE Magazine on October 5 Is Real, and It Is a Magazine
TGG titled his October 2 video “New info coming on Monday.” That checks out. LOVE magazine’s Issue 27 puts Jason and Lucia on the cover and is due October 5, with interviews featuring Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, and narrative SVP Rupert Humphries, according to VICE and RockstarINTEL (Reported). New screenshots came with the preview, though nobody agrees on the count: RockstarINTEL’s headline says two, TGG counted three, and EGW relayed a post claiming four. VICE’s summary of the excerpts says Lucia is the proactive, decisive one, while Jason is more often forced to react.
So Monday is real news, but it’s print. Humphries’ preview line, that the modest American dream is “a house for your family and loans paid off,” is already in our write-up: the LOVE cover frames Lucia’s spree as a modest American dream. Don’t confuse a magazine drop with a trailer drop.
Creator Theories: October 15, “Late October,” or No Trailer at All
The most detailed theory belongs to MrBossFTW, who names October 15. His evidence: he says Rockstar archived the “Extended Look” channel on its Discord, GTA Online’s whole October event schedule was announced up front (freeing Thursdays), and October 15 was the installation deadline in the Kaseya sign paperwork reviewed by IGN. The deadline and the Halloween schedule check out. Researchers couldn’t independently confirm the Discord archive, so treat that one as his report. The conclusion is a theory. The sign was already lit on October 1, so that deadline is behind us.
GhillieMaster suggested “potentially late October.” TGG wants a character or story trailer. Then there’s the Kinda Funny line, which needs a correction. Rob Nelson didn’t go on the podcast. Host Andy Cortez visited Rockstar North and relayed that Nelson said the studio didn’t want to do a “narrated thing” because GTA 6 is an “extremely tough game to show off,” per TheGamer (Reported, paraphrase, no transcript). That explains why we got a 27-minute Extended Look instead of a narrated gameplay video. It doesn’t rule out a short launch trailer. GTA VI O’Clock still expects maybe two more non-narrated trailers. InkTV expects more merch. If you’re counting, that’s four creators and four different answers. Our fan pulse piece tracks the mood.
What We Still Don’t Know
- Whether Rockstar will release any new video before November 19, and what it would be called.
- When the in-game radio and dynamic score details arrive.
- Whether any spot airs during HEAT broadcasts. Nobody official has said so.
The official clock hasn’t moved: pre-load November 12, launch November 19 at 12:00 a.m. ET per US store listings. Rockstar has already shown us the city twice and the gameplay once. If history holds, the last thing it shows us before we play will be short, loud, and over before the hype cycle can argue about it.
