GTA 6’s Vice City Oceanarium Sign Points to Miami’s Closed Seaquarium

An official GTA 6 screenshot shows a Vice City Oceanarium sign and a golden dome. The real Miami Seaquarium, golden dome and all, closed in October 2025.
Rockstar’s October 8 music drop came with three new screenshots, and one of them is just traffic. A highway, a skyline, a boat, a cement mixer. Above the lanes, Insider Gaming read a green sign: “Vice City Oceanarium ENTRANCE.” Off to the right, by the water, sits a golden geodesic dome.
Miami knows that dome. The real Miami Seaquarium on Virginia Key has one, and the real Seaquarium closed for good on October 12, 2025, after 70 years. Leonida, it seems, got its aquarium back.
Claim. “GTA 6 has a playable Vice City Oceanarium, based on the Miami Seaquarium.”
Evidence. An official screenshot shows a highway sign Insider Gaming reads as “Vice City Oceanarium ENTRANCE” (Reported), and a golden dome by the water that Insider Gaming only guesses is the Oceanarium. Rockstar hasn’t named the building, said what you can do there, or said what inspired it.
Verdict. The name on a sign: Reported. The dome, the Seaquarium link and anything you can do inside: Not confirmed.
- 2023: Lolita, the Seaquarium’s orca, dies.
- Mar 31, 2025: the Seaquarium’s owner files for Chapter 11.
- Sep 23, 2025: the Seaquarium turns 70.
- Oct 12, 2025: the park closes as its lease is sold to Terra Group.
- Oct 8, 2026: Rockstar posts the highway screenshot.
- Oct 15, 2026: WLRN reports a draft lease and a 325-slip marina plan.
- Nov 19, 2026: GTA 6 launches.
Official
The October 8 screenshot itself.
Reported
The sign text (Insider Gaming); the real Seaquarium’s closure and redevelopment (NBC 6, WLRN).
Not confirmed
That the dome is the Oceanarium, that it’s based on the Seaquarium, and whether you can go inside.
What the GTA 6 Screenshot Shows
Rockstar released the image on October 8 alongside its radio stations reveal. Insider Gaming, which ran all three shots that night, called this one “less eye-catching” but a good look at traffic: “there’s a boat, a helicopter, and a large commercial airliner in the distance” (Reported).
The useful bit is the gantry. Insider Gaming read the sign as “Vice City Oceanarium ENTRANCE” and suggested it “might be a nod to one of the many points of interest in Leonida that represent side activities. In this case, an aquarium.” On the dome it’s careful: “Perhaps the Oceanarium is that yellow structure to the right of the image” (Reported). Perhaps. Rockstar hasn’t said a word about the place.
The Real Miami Seaquarium Closed in 2025
NBC 6 South Florida reported that the Miami Seaquarium “is officially closing its doors” on Sunday, October 12, 2025, “after the company filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.” The park had turned 70 on September 23 (Reported).
The ending had been coming for a while. NBC 6 described “a year-long eviction process by Miami-Dade County against the Seaquarium’s current owner, the Mexican-owned Dolphin Company, due to welfare concerns.” It cited the 2023 death of the orca Lolita and “several violations and warnings” from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A former Seaquarium vet told the station: “There’s so much death attached to that name” (Reported).
Terra Group bought the lease in a $22.5 million deal and plans “an aquarium without sea mammals.” CEO David Martin told NBC 6: “We’re going to be preserving the golden dome” (Reported).
What Happens to the Seaquarium Site Now
A year on, the real site is still a construction plan with paperwork. WLRN reported on October 15, 2026 that a draft lease for the revamped Seaquarium “leaves open the possibility that a new marina at the Virginia Key location, where a third of slips would accommodate yachts, may not be built” (Reported).
The plan WLRN describes includes “a 200-seat event space in the geodesic dome performance area, shops, restaurants,” a University of Miami research space, an aquarium and a bayfront walk. The marina application lists 325 wet slips, nearly 90 of them for boats 80 feet or longer. State regulators have asked about seagrass, and two residents have argued that bay waters need voter approval (Reported).
So Miami has a golden dome with no fish in it, and a lawyer’s letter about yachts. Vice City has a sign promising an entrance. Satire rarely gets a cleaner setup.
Why Rockstar Borrows Landmarks Like This
GTA has always built its cities from recognizable shapes with the names filed off. A dome that looks like the Seaquarium’s fits the habit. But a resemblance is all the screenshot gives you. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the building, the inspiration, or whether there are animals, dolphins or a gift shop inside.
What We Don’t Know
- Whether the golden dome is the Oceanarium (Not confirmed).
- Whether you can go inside, or whether it’s a side activity (Not confirmed).
- Whether it’s modeled on the Miami Seaquarium. Rockstar hasn’t said (Not confirmed).
- Where exactly it sits on the Leonida map.
The sign points to an exit. On November 19, players can take it and find out.
