Vice City Is Real for One Night: Rockstar's Miami Takeover, From the $975,000 Roof Sign to the Heat's Nov 18 Game

The HEAT play the Bucks as Vice City on November 18 at 7 p.m. ET, under a $975,000 roof sign, five hours before GTA 6 unlocks. Miami's airport said no.

On Wednesday, November 18, 2026, the Miami HEAT will play the Milwaukee Bucks under the name “Vice City” at the Kaseya Center, tipping off at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Five hours later, at 12:00 a.m. ET on November 19 per US store listings, Grand Theft Auto VI unlocks on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rockstar spent a decade building a fake Miami. Now it’s renting the real one by the night.

Claim. Rockstar’s Miami push is now one connected launch-eve campaign: a $975,000 roof sign, a branded NBA game, and HEAT-made Vice City apparel, while the county’s public buildings stayed off the table.

Evidence. Official (HEAT release, co-announced with Rockstar, Oct 2): HEAT vs Bucks as “Vice City” on Nov 18 at 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN and Local 10; the roof sign was lit Oct 1; Court Culture Vice City apparel on sale Oct 2. Reported (Miami Herald via RockstarINTEL): Rockstar pays Miami-Dade $975,000 for the sign. Reported (NBC 6, WLRN): the sheriff and a commissioner rejected a “Vice City Airport” idea on Sept 3.

Verdict. The game night, sign lighting and apparel are Official. The sign fee is Reported. The uniform and court design are unrevealed, and any trailer during a HEAT broadcast is pure fan guesswork.

  1. June 29 — Miami-Dade county staff send Rockstar a pitch deck with Vice City airport arrivals, wrapped Metromover cars and branded manhole covers. It goes public through a records request in late August.
  2. September 3 — the sheriff and a county commissioner publicly reject it. The airport stays an airport.
  3. September 22 — a helicopter lifts the pink-and-white “Welcome to Vice City” sign onto the Kaseya Center roof.
  4. October 1 — the sign is lit.
  5. October 2 — the HEAT and Rockstar announce “A Night in Vice City”; Court Culture apparel goes on sale.
  6. November 18, 7:00 p.m. ET — HEAT vs Bucks as “Vice City,” on ESPN and Local 10.
  7. November 19, 12:00 a.m. ET — GTA 6 unlocks, per US store listings.

Official
Nov 18 game, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN / Local 10; special one-night court and a “uniform never previously worn”; sign lit Oct 1; Court Culture Vice City apparel, sold as pre-orders that “ship within 5-6 weeks”; “more news over the next few weeks.”

Reported
$975,000 sign fee (Miami Herald), approved by the mayor without a commission vote; 4,690 sq ft sign (Forbes); Giannis’ first game against his old team; 14 apparel items, $45–$110 (VICE); sign stays up to a year or through the HEAT’s last 2026-27 home game (IGN documents); some apparel sizes sold out fast (Kotaku, RockstarINTEL); airport rebrand rejected (NBC 6, WLRN).

Estimate
When the basketball ends relative to the unlock. NBA games usually run a little over two hours.

The HEAT Play the Bucks as “Vice City” on November 18

The announcement came from the HEAT, not from Rockstar’s Newswire. The team’s press release on NBA.com, published October 2 at 9:06 a.m. ET, says “the Miami HEAT and Rockstar Games today announced a historic partnership centered around the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI” (Official). On November 18 the HEAT “will take the court as ‘Vice City’” and host Milwaukee. The event page lists tip-off as 7:00 p.m. EST, with doors at 6:00 p.m. That’s 4:00 p.m. PT.

The basketball has its own storyline. It’s Giannis Antetokounmpo’s first game against the Bucks since Milwaukee traded him to Miami this offseason, as Bleacher Report pointed out (Reported). A two-time MVP coming home to face his old team, in a jersey nobody has seen, in a city pretending to be fictional. Rockstar couldn’t have written it better.

What you get on the night, in the HEAT’s words: “a special court,” “a uniform never previously worn,” and “unique game programming and live elements.” The event page adds: “One court, one night only: The HEAT play on special hardwood built for Vice City.” What you don’t get yet is a picture. Neither the court nor the uniform has been shown. There’s a sign-up for the uniform drop, and the team says “the two global brands will continue to share more news over the next few weeks” at HEAT.com/ViceCity.

The HEAT have worn Vice-themed City Edition uniforms before, but that tells you nothing about November’s jersey. Anyone posting “leaked” uniform colors is guessing.

The nicest detail is that the game already has this building. Game Informer’s new screenshots show searchlights over the Sahara Arena, the in-game version of the Kaseya Center, per GTAVice’s read of the images (Reported). Real arena, fake arena, same searchlights.

The $975,000 Sign on the Kaseya Center Roof

The sign went up first. On September 22 a helicopter lifted a pink-and-white “Welcome to Vice City” sign with the VI logo onto the arena roof, facing flights coming in over the ocean. Per county documents seen by the Miami Herald’s Doug Hanks and relayed by RockstarINTEL, Rockstar pays Miami-Dade $975,000 (Reported). Some outlets round that to “$1 million,” and the mayor’s chief of staff, Chris Hudtwalcker, reportedly told commissioners it was “close to $1 million.” The documented figure is $975,000, and we’re keeping it. It matters, too: per Forbes, the deal came in just under the $1 million line that would have required a county commission vote, so Mayor Daniella Levine Cava approved it herself (Reported).

The thing itself is big. Forbes lists it at about 4,690 square feet on roughly 21,000 pounds of supporting steel, with the heaviest letter segment weighing up to 4,950 pounds (Reported).

IGN, reviewing the same paperwork, reported the sign stays up for the later of one year after installation or the HEAT’s last 2026-27 home game, April 11, 2027, with an installation deadline of October 15 (Reported). The HEAT release confirms the “celebrated lighting” happened on October 1 (Official).

Fly into Miami this winter and the first thing that welcomes you may be a video game. Peak Florida.

The full dated log, including the Miami Beach umbrella vote and the downtown banner plan, lives on our GTA 6 marketing tracker.

Court Culture’s Vice City Apparel Is Not Rockstar’s $399.99 Box

On October 2 the HEAT’s own clothing line, Court Culture, put a Vice City collection on sale at Miami HEAT Store locations and MiamiHeatStore.com (Official). Per VICE, it’s 14 items from $45 to $110: tees and an “I <3 Vice City” crop at $45 to $55, a New Era dad cap at $48, three New Era snapbacks at $50 (one says “Goodtime State”), a $100 hoodie and a $110 Court Culture x Duvin crewneck (Reported). Kotaku reported one shirt that appears to nod to the 100%-completion shirt from GTA: Vice City was already sold out (Reported).

Two things to know before you hit checkout. First, this is NBA team merch. It is not Rockstar’s $399.99 The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection box, even where the names overlap. Second, the HEAT store’s product pages say “THIS IS A PRE-ORDER ITEM. This item will be shipped within 5-6 weeks” (Official). From October 2, that puts delivery close to launch week. VICE’s quoted three-to-five-day processing time is the store’s general policy, not this pre-order drop. Our earlier post has the item list: Miami HEAT GTA 6 merch is already on sale.

Miami Said No to “Vice City Airport”

Not every door in Miami opened. A county pitch deck from Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s administration, made public through a Florida records request in late August, pitched “Vice City arrivals” at Miami International Airport, wrapped Metromover trains and branded manhole covers. The published file is dated June 29; some early reports said July 29 (Reported). It was a pitch, not a signed Rockstar contract.

On September 3, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez shot it down in public (Reported, NBC 6 and WLRN). Cordero-Stutz called GTA “a video game franchise built around criminal activity.” Bermudez: “I still cannot believe that we are even considering temporarily rebranding important County assets, including Miami International Airport, as ‘Vice City Airport.’” A county spokesperson’s line became the headline: “Miami-Dade County is not Vice City.” We covered the fight as it happened in the civic war over Rockstar’s neon badge and the sheriff’s veto.

Look at what survived. The public airport and trains are out. A privately run arena, a pro sports team and team merch are in. Rockstar didn’t get Miami’s front door, so it rented the arena’s roof. Miami Beach and the City of Miami also took votes in September on their own, separate promo deals; the details are on the tracker.

How to Watch the Game Before the 12:00 a.m. ET Unlock

If you’re not in Miami, here’s launch eve from the couch. All times ET.

  • Before the night: digital pre-load opens November 12 (Official). Do it early. See the pre-load guide and storage plan.
  • 7:00 p.m.: HEAT vs Bucks tips off on ESPN nationally, or Local 10 if you’re in South Florida (Official).
  • Around 9:15–9:45 p.m.: the final buzzer, if it’s a normal-length NBA game (Estimate).
  • 12:00 a.m. Thursday: GTA 6 unlocks, per the US PlayStation Store and Xbox Store page data (store listing, not a Rockstar post). Details on the launch time page.

West Coast players get the strange version: tip-off at 4:00 p.m. PT, a final buzzer around 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. if it runs normal length, and the unlock at 9:00 p.m. PT Wednesday. Basketball, dinner, Leonida.

Don’t plan your night around a surprise trailer during the broadcast. Creators including TGG and MrBossFTW have speculated about a spot airing during HEAT games. Neither the HEAT nor Rockstar has said so.

What We Still Don’t Know

  • What the November 18 uniform and court look like.
  • What the “unique game night activations” are, and whether any involve playable GTA 6 at the arena.
  • What the promised “more news over the next few weeks” covers.
  • Whether Rockstar itself posts about the game night on Newswire. As of October 2, it hadn’t.

The Official Clock

Pre-load November 12. Vice City on the hardwood November 18 at 7:00 p.m. ET. Vice City on your console at 12:00 a.m. ET November 19, per US store listings. For one night Miami gets to be the fake version of itself, and then the fake version gets to be ours.
