Rockstar Games has officially responded to the August 2026 GTA VI leaks for the first time, in a statement posted on 26 August (Official; full text via Engadget).

Rockstar said having “videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team,” and that “this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game.” It did not use the word “authentic,” but it described the clips as GTA VI gameplay.

🎮 The apology was for the wait, not the leak: “We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has.” Rockstar added it hopes “everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19.”

For comparison, Rockstar’s 19 September 2022 statement on the earlier leak said it was “extremely disappointed” and contained no apology.

🔥 Tomorrow, August 27, GTA VI will receive its official extended presentation.

Rockstar said it is “determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.”

👀 Tomorrow we’ll finally see whether Rockstar can surprise us.
