Unconfirmed Estimate Puts GTA 6 Pre-Orders Past 6 Million as June GameStop Counts Stayed Single-Digit

Unconfirmed Estimate Puts GTA 6 Pre-Orders Past 6 Million as June GameStop Counts Stayed Single-Digit

An unconfirmed October 14 roundup citing Sensor Tower estimates GTA 6 pre-orders have passed 6 million, heavily weighted toward the PS5 Ultimate Edition, while June store reports show physical code-in-box pre-orders stalling in the single digits.

Estimate An unconfirmed October 14 roundup attributing figures to Sensor Tower estimates GTA 6 pre-order numbers have passed 6 million, meaning the digital surge is climbing even while physical buyers protest the missing disc. The tracker and the retail counter are not even selling the same edition.

Update, October 20, 2026: GamesIndustry.biz has now published the Sensor Tower data behind this figure. It estimates 6.08 million US digital preorders as of October 13, about $594 million, with boxed copies and other countries excluded. It is an Estimate, not an official count. Full breakdown: Sensor Tower: 6.08 million US digital preorders, 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2.

Rumor Sensor Tower estimate and June store staff reports; Rockstar and Take-Two have not disclosed official pre-order totals

  • Estimate Unconfirmed Sensor Tower estimate: past 6 million pre-orders, adding roughly 330,000 in a single week after an earlier 4.5 to 5.75 million range.
  • Platform and edition split in that estimate: 74 to 77 percent on PS5, 23 to 26 percent on Xbox, and nearly 90 percent on the rumoured $99.99 GTA 6 Ultimate Edition over the $79.99 Standard.
  • Reported Opening-day retail math from GameStop workers on Reddit, quoted by Polygon: one expected 500 pre-orders and logged 5, and another was at 11 against a store goal of 200.
  • Physical package contents: a download code in a box with no disc, no retail Ultimate option in June, and no guaranteed paper map.

Six Million on a Tracker, Five on a Shelf

Reported Players arguing over whether to cancel a physical reservation or lock in a digital preload are looking at two separate markets. In Polygon’s June report, GameStop workers on Reddit described counters ending opening day with 5 or 11 sign-ups, with the GTA 6 physical pre-order essentially a digital product in a box.

Meanwhile, the unconfirmed October 14 Sensor Tower GTA 6 estimate keeps climbing despite online boycott talk and refund campaigns. If nearly nine out of ten tracked buyers are choosing the digital Ultimate tier on console storefronts, walking away from a GameStop counter does not register on the chart.

What Does the Box Actually Contain?

In the GTA V and Red Dead Redemption era, lining up at midnight bought you a playable disc you could lend to a crewmate or trade in after finishing the story, plus a fold-out paper map for pinning robbery routes. According to the June store report, three of the five buyers at that 500-target store only wanted the map, yet recent GTA V and Red Dead Redemption printings dropped the insert altogether, and October chatter about GameStop staff confirming a map remains unverified rumor without a receipt.

With a GTA 6 no disc box, your money buys a plastic case and an account-locked download license. Rockstar's official GTA VI site pitches pre-order benefits tied to Jason and Lucia across Leonida and Vice City, while the Rockstar Newswire lists Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album for November 19 alongside separate Vice City merch, and unconfirmed roundup notes point to a November 12 preload before a November 19 launch.

Threads across r/GTA6 and r/TechNook show players weighing those insane tracker headlines against launch-day caution and pre-order complaints. What will settle both the unit count and the box debate is an official Take-Two investor booking disclosure or a photographed retail packaging sheet confirming whether a paper map of Leonida actually ships inside the case.

Unconfirmed roundup, tracker estimate, zero numbers from Take-Two. Range was 4.5 to 5.75, now it's "past 6". Convenient.

Most tracked buyers are not lining up for a box. The unconfirmed estimate puts nearly 90 percent on the digital Ultimate tier, so a thin GameStop counter does not show on that chart. June store staff logged five reservations at a store expecting 500, and three of those five reportedly only wanted a paper map. That insert is still unverified. The physical package is a download code with no disc, and Rockstar has not confirmed a map in the case.

Even if he had the build, Rockstar sat on RDR2 leaks for months and it didn't hurt it one bit.
