GTA 6 Trailer Records: Views, Likes and What Each Number Really Counts

Trailer 1 holds the Guinness YouTube records, Trailer 2 claimed 475 million views across platforms, and the Extended Look topped Netflix. Every number, checked and explained.
GTA 6 has two trailers and one 27-minute Extended Look, and each one set a different kind of record. Trailer 1 holds the Guinness World Records for a game trailer’s first day on YouTube. Rockstar says Trailer 2 was the biggest video launch of all time across all platforms. The Extended Look was No. 1 on Netflix’s English film chart.
Those numbers often get mixed up, mostly because they count different things. Here they are, each checked against its source and labelled.
Claim. “Trailer 2 got 475 million views on YouTube and beat Trailer 1.”
Evidence. Reported: Rockstar told The Hollywood Reporter that Trailer 2 passed 475 million views “across platforms” in 24 hours. IGN counted 85,276,196 views on Rockstar’s YouTube channel on May 8, 2025. Official: Guinness gave Trailer 1 90,421,491 YouTube views in its first 24 hours.
Verdict. Not confirmed as worded. Trailer 2 won across all platforms, but Trailer 1 still holds the YouTube first-day record for a game trailer.

Trailer 1: The YouTube Records
Trailer 1 was meant to premiere at 9 a.m. ET on December 5, 2023. A low-quality copy leaked, and Rockstar posted the official video on the evening of December 4 instead (Reported, Tom’s Hardware, The Washington Post, Bloomberg).
Guinness World Records, in a December 6, 2023 article, credited it with three records (Official):
- Most viewed videogame trailer on YouTube in 24 hours: 90,421,491 views.
- Most liked videogame trailer on YouTube: 8.9 million likes in the first 24 hours.
- Most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours (non-music), passing MrBeast’s “Every Country On Earth Fights For $250,000” at 59.4 million.
YouTube’s own blog, on December 5, put it at “over 93 million views in 24 hours,” a new record for “24-hour debut of a non-music video” (Official). The gap between 90.4 million and 93 million comes from two different counts. Guinness verified its own number; YouTube’s note cites internal data for December 4–5. Most outlets, including THR, use 93 million.
Trailer 2: The Cross-Platform Record
Trailer 2 dropped on the morning of May 6, 2025, days after Rockstar delayed the game. Rockstar’s press release said all of its footage “was captured on PlayStation 5” (Official).
The next day, Rockstar told The Hollywood Reporter the trailer had “over 475 million views across platforms” in 24 hours, and called it the biggest video launch of all time. THR compared it with Deadpool and Wolverine’s 365 million and The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ more than 200 million (Reported). Spotify told THR that streams of “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters, the trailer’s song, went up 182,000 percent.
On YouTube alone, it’s a different picture. IGN counted 85,276,196 views on Rockstar’s channel when it published on May 8, 2025. Eurogamer had about 84 million at the time of its writing (Reported). That’s below Trailer 1’s first day, partly because Trailer 1 was a YouTube exclusive and Trailer 2 went out everywhere at once.
The Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2027 also notes the 475 million figure. Editor Alice Bell told TechRadar the second trailer “for a while” had “the biggest video launch of anything, of all time, according to Rockstar,” and that “this was later beaten by Spider-Man: Brand New Day” (Reported, TechRadar, Sep 11, 2026).
The Extended Look: A Netflix Chart-Topper
Rockstar’s schedule was: Netflix on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 3 p.m. ET, then the official YouTube channel and GTA 6 site at 9 p.m. ET (Official). Netflix said the footage was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5.
Netflix’s Top 10 statement said the special “topped the English film list with 31.1M views and hit No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries tracked globally” (Official). That covered Aug. 27 to Aug. 30. Variety reported the YouTube upload had topped 17 million views on Rockstar’s channel by its publication on September 1 (Reported).
Don’t add those numbers together. Variety explains that Netflix counts a view as total hours watched divided by runtime, while YouTube counts a view as soon as a video starts playing. Variety and Netflix give the runtime as 27 minutes.

What Counts as a Record
- Trailer 1: YouTube first-day records for a game trailer, and for any non-music video at the time (Official).
- Trailer 2: biggest cross-platform first day, by Rockstar’s count, since passed (Reported).
- Extended Look: No. 1 Netflix English film for its week (Official).
What We Don’t Know
- A Rockstar breakdown of Trailer 2’s 475 million by platform.
- Whether Netflix will publish any record for the Extended Look. Bell said she “wouldn’t be surprised” if it broke viewing records there.
- Whether there’s another trailer before November 19. Rockstar hasn’t announced one.
