GTA 6 Billboards Go Global, and the Guns Stay Home

GTA 6 Billboards Go Global, and the Guns Stay Home

From Paris towers to Times Square, GTA 6 street ads reportedly drop the guns from the key art. Where the campaign is, what’s reported, and why nobody has explained it.

Look at the official key art. Jason sits on the hood, Lucia leans on him, and down by his knee there’s a pistol. Now look up at a tower block in Paris, or a screen in Times Square. Same couple, same pose, same palm trees. According to Metro, the guns are gone.

A month out from November 19, the GTA 6 campaign has left Florida. It’s on buildings in Paris and Brooklyn, a wall on Hollywood Boulevard, screens in Times Square and double-decker buses in Chicago. And somewhere along the way, the art got a little more polite.

Claim. “Rockstar removed the guns from GTA 6’s billboards worldwide because of advertising laws.”

Evidence. Metro reports the gun-free artwork in Paris, Times Square, on a Chicago bus and at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami (Reported). On the reason, Metro says it’s “unclear.” Rockstar hasn’t explained it, and no regulator has said anything.

Verdict. Guns missing from the street art: Reported. Why: Not confirmed.

  1. October 14, 2026: Rockstar Mag posts the Paris Les Mercuriales artwork as nearly finished.
  2. October 15: Launch Trailer. Axios reports the Wynwood Walls deal and the BAYO block party.
  3. October 16, 8:51 a.m. ET: Metro reports the gun-free posters.
  4. October 19: Vice publishes a city-by-city roundup of the campaign.
  5. November 18, 7 p.m. ET: the Miami Heat’s “A Night in Vice City” (Official, Heat).
  6. November 19: GTA 6 launches.
  7. November 22: the free BAYO block party in Little Haiti (Reported).

Official
The Heat’s Vice City night: date, time, court and uniform (Heat site).

Reported
Gun-free posters (Metro); the city placements (Vice, Metro); Wynwood Walls and BAYO (Axios).

Not confirmed
Why the guns were removed, who decided it, and whether it’s every placement.

Where the Art Went

Vice’s October 19 roundup is the best map of the campaign so far (Reported):

  • Paris. Jason and Lucia on the Les Mercuriales towers. Metro says the gun-free version was first spotted here, after a Reddit user compared it with the original.
  • New York. Big digital ads in Times Square, a hand-painted Brooklyn mural by Colossal Media, music-campaign billboards and branded tour buses.
  • Los Angeles. A giant Jason and Lucia mural on Hollywood Boulevard, plus music billboards.
  • Chicago. Double-decker sightseeing buses in GTA 6 livery.
  • Miami. The Vice City blimp, the rooftop sign on the Kaseya Center, beach chairs and umbrellas, a car convoy, and ads at Hard Rock Stadium during a Dolphins game.

Metro adds one gap: as of October 16, the push “hasn’t landed in a big way in London, or the UK generally.”

The Missing Guns

Metro’s Adam Starkey put it plainly: the posters “might look like the GTA 6 box art,” but “they’ve been scrubbed of any gun references.” On the Paris towers, he writes, “two gun references on the original artwork have been removed,” and the same edited art turned up in Times Square, on a Chicago bus and at Hard Rock Stadium (Reported).

Why? Metro doesn’t know: “It’s unclear if this is some blanket rule when it comes to advertising regulations, or if Rockstar is just rolling out edited versions to avoid any hassle.” Neither do we. Rockstar hasn’t said, and we found no regulator ruling or statement about these ads. Any story that names a law as the reason is guessing (Not confirmed).

What is true is simpler. A game about two armed robbers is being sold on public walls in the US and France without a gun in frame. The pistol is still in the official key art online. The street just gets the version with empty hands.

Miami Isn’t Done

Two dates are still ahead. The Heat’s official page lists “A Night in Vice City” for November 18 at 7 p.m. ET at Kaseya Center, with a one-night court “built for Vice City” and “a new, completely reimagined uniform” (Official). We covered the game itself here.

Then, on November 22, Rockstar is funding a free BAYO block party in Little Haiti with artist Michaël Brun, Axios reports. Tickets go by raffle, with more than half set aside for Florida residents and Haitian community members (Reported). Axios also reports that Wynwood Walls is offering Miami-Dade residents free entry through 2028 under a Rockstar partnership, alongside ten new murals.

What We Don’t Know

  • Why the guns were removed, and who made the call (Not confirmed).
  • Whether every outdoor placement uses the gun-free art, or only some (Not confirmed).
  • Who commissioned each mural (Not confirmed).
  • Whether the UK gets a campaign before launch.

Billboards don’t carry weapons. In Leonida, everyone else does.
