Alanah Pearce Doubts a GTA 6 Sweep at The Game Awards This Year

Alanah Pearce does not expect GTA 6 to sweep The Game Awards this year, and a September 29, 2026 IGN writeup of her livestream means a launch-day buyer is watching the calendar, not a locked nomination. The ballot is still the open fight.

The fight over GTA 6 Game Awards 2026 eligibility is still an argument, not a ruling. What a juror can finish before voting is the part that decides whether a Game of the Year nod means the same thing to a buyer that it means on the stage.

Pearce Says November 19 Is the Wrong Week

IGN described Pearce as an actress, games writer, and former games journalist, and reported that she said on a livestream she does not think GTA 6 has a good chance of sweeping The Game Awards this year because of release timing. She said the nomination cutoff has historically fallen around the same time as GTA 6's release date. IGN framed GTA 6 as possibly not eligible for Game of the Year at The Game Awards this year.

Anyone who cleared GTA V before they treated Cayo as a loop knows the trap. A Rockstar story is not a lunch-break clear, and a vote against street date judges the opening the way a GTA V prologue does.

Last Year's Cutoff Was November 21

IGN reported that last year's eligibility cutoff was November 21, two days after GTA 6 will release this year. If that window repeats, the ship date sits on the calendar and still does not sit inside a finished playthrough. IGN presented November 21 as a reply to Pearce, not as this year's Geoff Keighley nomination deadline and not as a posted The Game Awards 2026 cutoff.

ScreenRant wrote on December 13, 2025 that GTA 6 should be officially eligible, that nominations will likely come down to review keys, and that a typical cutoff on the third Friday in November would fall after the November 19 release. That is last winter's analysis, not this year's rule sheet.

The Launch Note Is Not the Vote

Rockstar's pre-order Newswire confirms the November 19 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Game Awards account notes the November 19, 2026 launch and does not state an eligibility ruling.

Can Jurors Finish the Game First?

IGN asked whether anyone could finish GTA 6 before nominee voting, and whether a vote without finishing the game would raise ethical concerns. Game of the Year gets used as a recommendation to sit down and clear it. A nod built on a first weekend is a partial verdict, the way rating GTA Online after one contact mission misses the loop.

The playtime objection is older than Pearce's livestream. On July 5, 2026, Polygon argued that controlled review events instead of early review codes could leave few jurors having played GTA 6 before early-to-mid November nomination voting. GameRant, the same day, discussed limited review access and that window leaving too few 2026 jurors with enough playtime to nominate the game. Both are trade arguments, not a Rockstar plan to lock codes, hold an event, or move November 19.

IGN listed two workarounds as possibilities, not announcements. Geoff Keighley could push the voting deadline back, or Rockstar could give jurors a head start before the cutoff.

A Miss This Year Still Leaves 2027

IGN said a miss this year still leaves 2027, and called an online mode next year heavily rumored. That online date is not a Rockstar schedule. Players who want the award as a launch-year coronation are the ones left waiting.

Two days on last year's calendar would put November 19 inside the old window. It would not put a finished campaign in a juror's hands, and a name is a coronation only if the vote matches the game you are about to play.
