GTA 6 Switch 2: Handheld Owners Are Being Pointed at a PS5

A former Rockstar open-world designer doubts a Nintendo version makes sense for GTA 6, and a Switch 2 owner who wants the same street is the person that doubt lands on, in Video Games Chronicle's 10 October 2026 report. Buy a PS5 if the build would not run exactly the same.

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has nothing to announce. Devon Pritchard told Variety, in the same Video Games Chronicle story:

That's going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.

VGC reports that no official port has been suggested by Nintendo or Rockstar. The same story says some insiders have claimed exploratory conversations behind the scenes. That claim is unconfirmed, and it is not an announcement.

Buy the PS5, Skip the Cut

According to Video Games Chronicle, the former open-world designer said he does not believe a Nintendo version makes sense, because he is not sure the GTA 6 audience is the Switch audience. A GTA fan, he said, would probably buy a console the game comes out on. He also questioned a subpar experience that does not run exactly the same when anyone will buy a PS5.

He said Switch, inside a story about a GTA 6 Switch 2 port. The objection is audience fit and a build that does not run the same, not a spec review of the new handheld.

Anyone who has pushed a Fleeca getaway through Los Santos traffic knows why that line is not a graphics slider. In GTA V the sidewalk, the other cars, and the pedestrians are what a five-star chase actually uses. If Take-Two and Rockstar share his view, a handheld owner who wants that simulation is being pointed at a PS5, not a later Switch 2 patch.

The Handheld Already Has the Hard Ports

Video Games Chronicle reports that Switch 2 has released Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Requiem, and Elden Ring, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance still due. VGC ties that roster partly to more power than the previous system and does not publish hardware numbers. Take-Two already supports the platform with Civilization VII and NBA 2K26, and Rockstar shipped a Red Dead Redemption port late last year.

That roster blocks the claim that Nintendo policy makes every heavy third-party game impossible, and it still does not put Jason and Lucia on the handheld. Red Dead Redemption on Switch is an older port, and Cyberpunk on the box does not answer whether a thinner crowd would still be the game you stop the car for.
