GTA 6 Switch 2: Handheld Owners Still Have Nothing to Pre-Order

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has nothing to announce on a GTA 6 Switch 2 port, so a handheld owner still cannot pre-order the game or plan a launch session on that hardware, Video Games Chronicle reported on 10 October 2026. You cannot buy it there.

Pritchard Has Nothing to Announce

Pritchard told Variety, VGC reports, that a Switch 2 port is a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but she has nothing to announce on her end at this time.

VGC says Nintendo has offered no official suggestion that a port is being considered for Switch 2, or that one is technically feasible. Some insiders have claimed exploratory conversations behind the scenes. Nintendo has not confirmed those talks, so the insider note stays an unconfirmed rumor.

So Do You Buy Another Console?

If your only box is a Switch 2, you buy the console the game ships on, or you wait and risk paying twice.

VGC says Switch 2 already has Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Requiem, and Elden Ring, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance due in the coming months. Take-Two has Civilization VII and NBA 2K26 there, and Rockstar shipped Red Dead Redemption to Nintendo hardware late last year. That is an older Rockstar port, not a GTA 6 handheld port.

Viewers on one YouTube upload are saying that if an Xbox Series S build can run the game, Switch 2 can. One viewer wrote that everything graphical is scalable, "but the cpu is about 1/3rd the power and the sim is super complex." Others on a YouTube upload say cutting NPCs would be the compromise, and that Rockstar still has to want the port. Those lines are viewer talk, not a commitment.

In GTA V the five-star chase needs the street full of cars and pedestrians. Thin that density for a handheld and the toy changes, which is why Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 is a weak stand-in for this sim.

Commenters say they would buy Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 6 on Switch 2 if Rockstar ported both. That wish is not a listing, and VGC's Rockstar Nintendo release is Red Dead Redemption, not the sequel. Until Take-Two or Rockstar answers the conversation Pritchard assigned them, the only GTA 6 purchase you can plan is the box they actually ship.
